At Last – A Junk Food Junkie’s Solution to Losing Weight!
Have you ever tried to lose weight by simply deciding to remain a junk food eater? You finish the last 4 Oreos in the bag and then spend the next three or four days eating nothing but yogurt, chicken, and thin salads. So what happens? You open a new bag of Oreos because you realize that life isn’t worth living if you can’t enjoy what you eat.
Don’t worry. This happens to most junk food junkies because they think that they can lose weight only through willpower and sudden changes in their diet. Although it looks good on paper, it is not suitable for most people because the procedure is what we call cold turkey. Change needs to happen gradually in order for it to work in the long term.
Face the facts first. You are a fan of junk food. You’ve been eating junk food for a long time and it’s hard for you to eat carrots instead of those delicious McDonald’s french fries. It’s been years since you left and became sedentary. If it happened overnight, you would notice it. No one can easily break old habits.
For anyone to lose weight and keep it off for good, a person must lead a healthy lifestyle. This is important to know because it is the ultimate goal for anyone who wants to lose weight. Leading a healthy lifestyle includes exercising, eating right and feeling good about the areas of your life that bring you joy. All every day.
Your first thought might be that it takes too much work to break your junk food junkie habits and adopt a healthy lifestyle. Exercise every day? Who has time and energy for that?! And proper nutrition will get you back on those boring salads, right? Wrong! People with a healthy lifestyle eat McDonald’s French fries and Oreos. They don’t always eat them.
When it comes to exercise, 30 minutes is all a person needs to keep themselves healthy and active. Walk, run, bike, dance, skate, ski…it doesn’t matter. If you can’t dedicate half an hour a day to ensure the health of your body is the only thing you need to care about in your life, you need to make more changes than losing weight!
What does all this have to do with how you can get away with not eating junk food? A lot! Now that you know leading a healthy lifestyle is your ultimate goal, you can build a road map to get there. Everyone wants to be there at night, but setting realistic deadlines to achieve your goals is a more efficient and productive way.
Your parents probably told you when you were young that you should eat vegetables. Somewhere along the way you decided to eat for yourself and junk food replaced what you always knew were healthy options. The shock value of going back to these herbs without continuing to eat junk food is not worth it to you. I say keep eating your junk food.
What? Always eating junk food? Well, that’s my advice. But here it is. Instead of eating junk food at every meal or snack, choose one meal a day that you will replace with healthier food options. I told you it would be gradual. If you eat Cheez-its every day at 3 pm for dessert, replace it with a bowl of granola cereal.
After making this small change every day for a few weeks, discipline yourself to take it to the next level. Now you can eat well once a day, go for two! This can be two snacks, two meals or a small meal and one meal. I’m going to eat this time because it will speed up your weight loss more than changing your daily eating habits.
So after a month of this, you’re not really eating junk food all the time? You may have lost a little weight but you still get to eat pizza every Friday night. Hmmm…interesting how this works. You’ve been eating well but can’t give up the foods you love, it’s time to think about exercise.
We have established that we do not have 30 minutes a day to sweat on the treadmill. OK, how about 5 minutes? Everyone has 5 minutes to walk around the block. Take 5 minutes a day to do this for a week. Once you start feeling better, which you like, you’ll want to do it more often. I can almost guarantee that you will find 10 minutes in your busy schedule.
Continue at this pace. Increase your exercise time by 5 minutes each week. After a month and a half you will be 30 minutes and that’s it! Whether or not you want to continue improving your health is your personal choice, but most people need at least 30 minutes of exercise a day to maintain a healthy weight.
Even if you’re reading this and know you can eat better than one meal a day, or exercise for more than 30 minutes, don’t do it. You’ll be just as tired as ever when trying to lose weight. Keep doing it little by little and eventually you’ll get to the point where you’re actually exercising and eating healthy regularly without giving it a second thought.
This approach worked for me 15 years ago and I have kept my weight off 70 pounds ever since. I had severe asthma and couldn’t exercise at first, but when my body got better, I suddenly stopped taking medicine and started cycling every day. There are no words to describe how happy I am to be able to do this now and live the way I should.
In order for things to change, you must change. Just remember that kicking the junkie habit doesn’t have to happen overnight. In fact, the more gradual it is, the more effective it will be in the long run.
