Goal Setting For Weight Loss: Dream Bigger, Get Smaller

In weight loss as in life, some people get where they want to go and some don’t. You’ve heard many times that writing down your goals is important. But do you know why this step is so important? When you put pen to paper, you turn your thoughts into something tangible. I suspect this is why statistics show that only 2% of Americans actually write down their goals.

Here’s a surprising fact: Of the graduating class of 1953 at Yale University, only 3% had clearly defined and written goals. Let’s take a look at the 9 steps to goal setting that you can apply to your weight loss goals and to any life goal that will get you where you want to go.

What do you want to do? Do you want to run a marathon? Do you want to sky dive? Do you just want to play with your kids without getting tired? Nothing is better than one of these goals. But you have to know what it is. Write it down.

What would you like to have? Are those 6-pack abs? Is it a cobra shaped back? Are your feet good? is that a girlfriend? Write it down.

3. FIND A SUBJECT. If you are a Christian, you can use words from the Bible like Philippians 4:13 “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me”. If you’re not religiously inclined, you might be like “When the world says, give up, whisper hope, try it once.” Maybe you want to use, “When the going gets tough, the going gets tough.” Whatever it is, you better believe it! Paying phrases should be in your head and in your heart, ready to go when you hit a wall because the road to health is not a straight line with small grades.

4. ASK FOR HELP FROM A NATIONAL. It could be EXPERTS. This expert may refer to a professional if you need a medical evaluation. However, this expert may not be a professional. Do you have a friend with weight loss success that they have successfully supported for years? It would be foolish not to pick his brain to see how he did it.

5. HISTORY OF THE FOODS. You’ve probably tried to shape your life before and failed. It may have worked, but you couldn’t keep it. What is the obstacle? I couldn’t stick to a healthy diet. 7. GO AND BE DILIGENT. What you plan will NOT happen instantly but gradually, steadily, with persistence your vision of a fit and healthy body will come true. Just don’t leave!

8. ENROLL A TEAM FOR YOUR SUPPORT. Your journey will go faster and smoother with a support team. Think of a car going into a pothole during a car race. Isn’t it funny if drivers have to change tires, pump gas and drink themselves? You need a team that will give you the right fuel, give you the right emotional support. An accountability partner is essential in keeping you honest about the exercise part.

9. PAY THE PRICE. Know that there is a price, whether it is time, effort or money, for everything that is worth it. Ask yourself how much it costs? What am I willing to pay? Is it worth it?
