Birth Control in Light of Islam and Science
Birth control, also known as contraception and birth control, is a method or device used to prevent pregnancy. In the last 50 to 60 years, the topic of birth control or population control has increased so much that it has become a topic of discussion on Television, Radio, Internet and many different platforms.
Ahmad SY Abu Dawud reported on the authority of Ma’qil Ibn Yasar (Allah be pleased with him) who narrated that a man came to the Messenger of God.PBUH) and he said:
“I have seen a noble and beautiful woman, but she does not give birth; He said: “No.” So he returned to him again, but he forbade him. He came to him a third time, and he said (the Prophet and the blessings of Allah be upon him ): “I am married to a very loving and wealthy woman, but I am more than the number of people among you”.
This Hadith indirectly calls for abstinence from birth control and similar practices.
Effects of birth control methods on maternal health
It has been scientifically proven that the use of birth control methods has negative effects on the health of the mother. The female reproductive system is controlled by a series of reproductive hormones released from the frontal lobe of the pituitary gland and the ovaries. In the normal state, these hormones are produced in measured levels. Its increase or decrease can lead to disease. Therefore, medical scientists admit that all contraceptives have negative effects on their users. This is the result of many researches done on it. Some of the side effects of using birth control are as follows:
1. Hormonal imbalance in the body
2. Weight gain and fluid retention.
3. Severe disease in the reproductive organs of women.
4. Increased vulnerability to fatal heart disease for those over thirty, especially for those over forty.
Death of a Woman Taking Contraceptive Tablets
The news agency reported the case of a British woman who died from using birth control pills. He has used the tablet called him Walden for eight years before changing to another known as Mythochlor in medical advice. A few weeks after the change, he became ill and was confined to bed. His health later deteriorated and he died.
Recently, it has been known that the use of contraceptives, especially the pill, can cause some cancers.
The most balanced advice
The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) wanted to forbid breastfeeding a child while its mother was pregnant without knowing that the Romans were doing it. Such breastfeeding can harm the breast and stunt the growth of the baby.
If we look deeply into this prophetic guidance, we will realize that the interval between one pregnancy and another lasts three years, especially if we go back to the words of Allah:
“A mother will breastfeed her child for two years, (it is) for those (parents) who wish to fill the time of breastfeeding.” (Surah Al-Baqarah 2:233)
We will then see that giving the mother the opportunity to fully recover her health (after giving birth) is a matter of religion, as opposed to completely preventing pregnancy through contraceptive methods. .
Situation in Muslim and Arab countries
It is surprising that most Muslim countries have been swept away by the movement called birth control in the face of economic and social challenges. A large amount of money that can be used for more beneficial economic and social projects has been allocated to this campaign. It should be noted here that the real problem is not the lack of wealth, but the unequal distribution of wealth among the people. Today, wealth and wealth are scattered and concentrated among the rich, so the people cannot get their rights.
A classified report in one of the Arab countries confirms that the cost of the contraceptive campaign in one year in terms of purchased cars, doctors and nurses, medicines and other equipment purchased, surgery performed and hospital used is sufficient for further care. more than a million children at a time when the birth rate in that country did not exceed half a million.
In addition, there are some Muslim countries that have projects and work opportunities that lack workers, forcing these countries to import workers from Asian and European countries to help them carry out their projects.
On the other hand, there are other Muslim countries that have a large population but do not have enough capital to build projects that allow the large population to find work. Are these countries not benefiting from the past to advance human brotherhood? In fact, human beings are the basis of progress and development if they are used properly and do not complain that there is not enough capacity.
Contraceptive failure rates
The words of the Prophet in the Hadith, “If Allah wills to cause something, nothing can stop Him”, is a perfect miracle that those who have studied birth control methods and their percentage of success cannot understand. Despite these various methods, pregnancy still occurs occasionally, if Allah (SWT) desire and command so.
A gynecologist said: “I had a patient who came to me and told me that she had a tubal ligation in London and got pregnant a few months later.”
The failure rate of these contraceptives is 55 percent if they are barrier and intra-uterine methods, and the rate drops to 1 percent if they are not through surgery and an experienced surgeon. However, many researchers still document a failure rate of up to 37 percent in operations performed by experienced surgeons. There is even pregnancy after the removal of the uterus. Therefore, the Noble Prophetic Hadith is a perfect miracle to establish this scientific fact. And Allah (SWT) knows best.
