How to Lose Baby Weight Fast, Safely & For Good

One of the most common questions women ask after giving birth is “How can I lose weight fast?” However, the problem is that losing baby weight (as well as any weight) quickly isn’t the safest or best method. Usually, women who go on crash diets end up packing the pounds back on, and very quickly.

No, you won’t lose your baby weight in a week or even 2, but it won’t take long to get back to your pre-pregnancy weight bliss. If you follow a good diet and fitness plan you should have no problem losing weight fast and keeping it completely off.

This is exactly how I lost my baby weight. It didn’t take me long either, but I needed a program that would give me the guidance and direction I was looking for to lose the baby weight safely and without compromising my milk supply (this is another reason important reason why you shouldn’t consider crash dieting!).

One of the first things I learned about losing baby weight was not to rush, but to exercise when I felt up to it and ready. It can take up to 6 months for your body to recover after pregnancy and you need to keep that in mind! So it’s important to take the time to exercise. Starting with some low impact exercises or just going for brisk walks with your baby (in a sling will give you resistance too!) will get you started. This is what I did. Walking and holding my baby in a sling was lovely, and it also calmed him down when he was colic (and recently when he was teething too). So just hanging out when your child is upset would also be a good goal to start with.

Another thing everyone will tell you is to breastfeed! Not only does it help shrink your womb to normal size quickly, but it will also help you lose weight much faster (and of course it’s better for your baby). Much of the extra weight we gain in pregnancy was there to help prepare us for breastfeeding. Obviously this isn’t an option for everyone, but not breastfeeding will inevitably make it a little harder to shed those extra pounds. For me it has definitely paid off.

Eating foods that are low in fat will also help you lose weight fast. Ask your husband or a family member to help you prepare nutritious food, not only to help you lose weight, but also to help keep your energy levels up for your new bundle of joy! Keep it simple. It doesn’t have to be complicated and eat plenty of fruit before meals (fruit digests much faster than any other food and eating before a meal will improve digestion). This is probably the hardest part, it was for me. There’s so much information out there and as a new mom I haven’t had time to really get into what I should be eating — having a newborn is such an important event. This is why following a program has really helped me.

When you give birth, you lose a lot of weight very quickly and you already find yourself dressing in clothes that you could not wear before. This can give you a boost, a head start in starting your weight loss quest. Find a low-impact nutritional diet and exercise program and you’ll be amazed at how much leaner you’ll be in just a few weeks. Not only will you look thinner, but people will notice – people will expect you to be exhausted all the time and don’t have time, but you can pleasantly surprise them! This will further inspire you into your new life as a fit and healthy mother! It’s not unrealistic to have lost the pregnancy weight in just a few months – I have, and quite easily thanks to a structured program.
