WHY THE REST OF MY LIFE?

Simple. I don’t care what diet you follow and how well it works. If it works and you stop eating that diet, over time you’ll find yourself exactly where you are now and wondering where you put this article.

So, to build your “World’s Greatest Diet” we have to go back to the title of this article, “The World’s Greatest Diet for Weight Loss and Health.” I put “weight loss” AND “health” for a reason. There are diets that don’t actually help you lose weight, there are diets that aren’t good for your health, and weight loss doesn’t automatically equate to health…particularly if weight loss is achieved through diet.

Here we are. It doesn’t matter what foods you eat. If you like apple pie, eat some apple pie. You like popcorn, get some popcorn. Filet mignon? Sure why not.

Let’s go back for a minute. A “diet” is simply a list of the foods you eat. Over the last few decades, word has loaded up with all kinds of extra things like pancakes at IHOP. A doctor can give you a “diet” to help you avoid hives, overcome an upset stomach, or even gain weight if that’s what’s needed for your health.

If that doctor gives you a “diet” that says you can only eat seven foods, it would be doing you a grave disservice (pun intended). To get the nutrients your body needs for health AND weight loss, you need a variety of foods…and that diversity can range from soup to nuts…or Filet Mignon! You don’t ONLY have to eat cabbage. You MUST eat kale, hamburgers, biscuits, broccoli, apples, apple pie, chicken, fish, carrots… you get the idea. You can deny yourself many foods you like, get a lot of pleasure out of your life and even harm your health without even losing weight by trying weird diets and weird pills that make your body act unnaturally.

Your personal “world’s best diet” will be foods you normally eat and enjoy eating.

THERE MUST BE A “BUT” AROUND SOMEWHERE!

Absolutely. It’s not about WHAT you eat. It’s about two other things:

1. How much you eat and

2. How you live the rest of your life.

You see, weight loss and health are about balance. Weight loss scales have been known for years. Eat more calories than you use, the excess is stored as fat. Try to use more calories than you eat, your body burns the available fat, and abracadabra you have the weight loss. However, simply cutting calories to the bone denies your body the nutrients it needs for health and doesn’t allow for the activity that helps maintain a healthy body. Exercising (the way we most commonly burn extra calories) by continuing to eat excess calories not only makes it more difficult to lose weight, but still creates a condition where our health can still be threatened by that excess.

A balanced health and weight loss program doesn’t deny you the foods you enjoy eating, it simply commits you to understanding what you’re doing to your body and using some self-control and limiting yourself when food is offered or available. As for the exercise side of the equation, “exercise” scares people, so let’s just talk about activity. Your exercise program can be gardening, swimming, cycling, yoga, tai-chi; or gardening on Monday, swimming on Tuesday, cycling on Wednesday, yoga on Thursday and tai-chi on Friday!

There’s an old saying: keep doing what you’ve been doing and you’ll keep getting what you’ve been getting.

Diet pill makers and diet book sellers know you realize this, so they offer you something that seems to change that equation with no wins. The problem is that without actually creating an actual change in the way you eat and exercise, these weight loss pills and fad diets will at best appear to only temporarily change the real equation and allow you to lose weight for a short time if at all. everything . They won’t permanently change your life or health, and any of their “weight loss” effects will wear off quickly, often leaving you in a worse situation than when you started.
