How Does The Fat Smash Diet Work?

The Fat Smash Diet has been getting a lot of attention lately. It was hosted by the famous Dr. from VH1’s Celebrity Fit Club. Ian K. Created by Smith. This diet isn’t what you’d expect – it’s part of a new kind of diet, helping you stay healthy, lose weight and stay sustainable for a long time. An important part of the Fat Smash Diet is that you are allowed to eat as many fruits and vegetables as you want, although for me eating strictly fruits and vegetables does not make a balanced diet and it can be difficult to maintain one.

The Fat Smash Diet is divided into four phases.

The first stage – the detoxification period, which lasts for nine days. You should avoid caffeine, alcohol and similar substances, and eat all foods except vegetables and fruits. Although potatoes and avocados are off limits. You should only drink water or herbal tea and limit fat to a small amount of olive oil. This phase of the diet is my least favorite because of the lack of a balanced diet. Restricting myself to just fruits and vegetables made me feel malnourished. Make sure you have a well thought out meal plan for this step.

Stage two – the foundation period, and lasts for three weeks. You can eat everything from step 1 (fruits and vegetables) but slowly start reintroducing lean meat. Include lean chicken, turkey, and fish, as well as whole eggs, unsweetened cereal, and cheese in very limited amounts. Avoid pork and other fatty meats.

Phase three – is called construction, and lasts for a period of four weeks. Along with your first and second meals, you include whole wheat breads and pastas. You can also eat low-fat mayonnaise and peanut butter.

Step Four – Continues the pattern adding to the previous steps. However, it lasts a lifetime. You can add minimal amounts of processed or starchy foods, such as white rice and potatoes, and a couple of glasses of wine or beer per week, but you must stick to this meal plan for life. The goal is to create a diet plan that you can stick to for good, but this was the hardest part for me because it eliminated a lot of the foods I loved before.

I couldn’t go into too much detail about the diet meal plans or what worked for me, so as with all diets, before you start, look at your life and ask yourself what it will take to stick to the dietary restrictions.
