Weight Loss 101 – Can Eating a Big Breakfast Help You to Lose Weight? Part II

Eating a proper breakfast is vital for many reasons, and one of them is losing weight. Research shows that people who eat a healthy, large breakfast are less likely to overeat and gain weight.

We’ve all heard the saying that you should eat breakfast like a king, lunch like a queen, and dinner like a pauper. This is still true. But unfortunately most people have this the other way around. They would breakfast like a pauper, pitch like a queen, and dine or supper like a king. This is a sure recipe for weight gain.

So we learned in part one of this article series that eating a good breakfast will regulate your blood sugar, increase your metabolic rate so you’re better able to burn calories, increase your energy levels, improve mental function, and especially the ability to concentrate in the morning between eight and one. But what constitutes a good breakfast? What do I want to talk more about this in this particular article.

Many people skip breakfast because they see they don’t have time in the morning. We all know there is a big rush in the morning getting ready, getting the kids ready for school and trying to avoid traffic in an effort to get to work on time. This skin over time takes over both physically and mentally. One of the things I always recommend if you think you don’t have time in the morning to have breakfast, is to try to go to bed a little earlier, turn off the TV during all the snacks and go to bed. That way you can wake up a little earlier and you won’t feel so tired because your body didn’t spend all night trying to digest all that food you ate late into the night.

This way you can make time for breakfast in the morning, which is the most important meal of the day. If this is a bit difficult for you to do, then try doing some planning the night before and some pre-preparation of some of the foods you would have for breakfast, this will cut down on your prep time in the morning .

So as for food what kind of food should I eat? Well, for starters, a good breakfast should give you at least one-third of your total allowable daily calories. To achieve this we need wholemeal bread, whole grains, fresh fruit and some raw nuts.

Try to avoid high-sugar, highly refined, highly processed cereal packets. These are not in your best interest and defeat the whole purpose of having breakfast. Don’t be fooled by false and deceptive advertising when it comes to cereal, Honey Nut Cheerios is one that comes to mind, so I’ll use that as an example. This particular serial has way more sugar than honey and way more salt than nuts, is highly refined, highly processed, and contains ingredients I can’t even pronounce. I’m not going to pick on this particular serial, and if this is your favorite, I’m sorry. But my point here is that we need to become label readers. Forget what they see on TV about this product or that product the most important thing is that the back of the package where the nutritional information is located. If sugar, high fructose corn syrup, or any other type of sweetener appears in the first five ingredients, leave it alone.

Eating a healthy breakfast is the first step towards weight loss and boosting your energy levels. So start eating your most important meal of the day starting tomorrow morning.
