I’m a big fan of protein shake diets. I absolutely love them for numerous reasons and have been doing them for a long time to get in shape before summer and try to look my best. But first I want to talk about why protein shake diets are so awesome and then give you a great plan to follow if this is something you want to use to lose belly fat fast.

One of the reasons protein shake diets are great is because they are so easy to make. I mean, think about it. You have nothing to cook, you don’t have to worry about food, count calories, go to the supermarket, pack your food and prepare your food every Sunday and Wednesday. With protein shake diets all you need to do is plan your diet ahead to see how many calories each scoop of protein powder has and you’re done. It’s simple, fast, easy and effective.

Another great thing about this type of diet is that it changes your relationship with food on a mental basis. Many people have a love hate relationship with food. They are also addicted to certain foods without even knowing it. By following a protein shake diet, you’re essentially resetting all those switches within your brain and how it relates to food. The funny thing you’ll find is that you start craving healthy foods like salads, veggies, and chicken. I swear to god it happens and I don’t know why. I always experience it and it’s nice enough to notice and pass through.

Also, what I like about this diet is that because you’ll be getting a lot of your calories in liquid form, it gives your digestive system a much-needed break. The digestive system is always working, and every time you eat, your body has to devote a tremendous amount of energy to breaking down all that food. And if you’re eating the wrong types of foods and even supposedly healthy foods like whole grain bread, you’re doing a lot of damage to your bowels. You can cause a lot of inflammatory responses within your body that cause a cascade of events and health problems later on. You’ll notice that you have more energy, need less sleep, wake up with a jump in your step, are more alert during the day, and feel much “lighter” on your feet overall. That’s because your body no longer needs to spend a ton of energy on digestion.

However there are some disadvantages of this diet that you need to take care of. The first is that this diet is very bland from a nutritional point of view. You won’t get all of your daily vitamins and minerals because you’ll only be drinking protein shakes all day. You need some healthy fats and veggies. But don’t worry as this is easily avoidable. Just go buy some form of vegetable powder and fish oil. I don’t care what kind of vegetable powder you get or what kind of fish oil. However I would argue that the lower the quality of the fish oil, the more you will need to take to get the maximum benefit. For example, if you buy the CVS brand, this is the brand I have, you’ll need about 5-10 grams per day. Now, if you choose a more expensive brand that has a higher concentration of DHA and EPA, you won’t need to take as many capsules throughout the day. You may only need 1-3 depending on how much DHA and EPA is in each serving.

Now, as far as what is the best protein powder for weight loss and this diet, I would go for a casein protein powder or a whey and casein blend. Both types of protein are great, but they do certain things. For example, whey protein is digested very quickly. Depending on the purity it can be from 15 minutes to 2 hours. Whey, however, will make you feel pretty hungry in a short amount of time. There’s not much substance to the stuff.

Now with casein protein powder, it digests between 4-8 hours and again it depends on the quality and type you buy. It has a much thicker texture and will make you feel fuller for a longer period of time.

Here is a good breakdown to use for a protein shake diet plan to lose belly fat:

Meal 1: 1 scoop of protein blend with 2 capsules of fish oil, 1 teaspoon of greens and 1 tablespoon of flaxseed

Meal 2: 1 scoop of protein blend with 2 capsules of fish oil

Meal 3: 2 scoops of protein powder, 2 capsules of fish oil, 1 teaspoon of greens and 1 tablespoon of flaxseed

Meal 4: 2 scoops of protein powder, 2 caplets of fish oil

Meal 5: 1 scoop protein powder, 1 tablespoon organic peanut butter, 1 tablespoon flaxseed

And that’s it. An easy to follow protein shake diet plan that will help you shed some belly fat in a short amount of time. Just remember to take your vegetable and fish oil supplement to help fill in any nutrient holes in your diet. Organic Peanut Butter also helps with the fatty acid profile of your diet and tastes like candy. Trust me after doing this diet, you have never had peanut butter that will taste so good ever before in your life.
