“I could move in with you and walk around with you all day and all night, and every time you tried to eat something unhealthy, I’d throw it right out of your hands. I could put a gun to your head and make you exercise and that wouldn’t snack at night. After several months, you’ll have all the new habits and wouldn’t need me there anymore. Or I can hypnotize you to learn the habits you need and how to use them, and you’ll do it yourself in about 30 days. Remember, I have four children coming with me. Which way would you prefer?”

Hypnosis is, by definition, a change of state. From happy to sad, relaxed to tense, angry to calm. When you change your status, you become more suggestible. This is where people get confused: more suggestible does NOT mean that someone can make you do something you wouldn’t normally do. It’s possible? Yes, but with several visits and a lot of work: in short, you would know what is happening. Hypnosis only allows you to accept beneficial suggestions without you getting in the way.
