When most people hear the word diet, they think they are starving and eating very simple and unfavorable foods. The secret to losing body fat is simple, burn more calories than you consume. But what you’re probably wondering right now is “how do I do this?” Read on I’ll let you know…

First let me tell you the basics of eating. Very simplistically I will let you know how your body works. You only have 3 types of macros to remember: 1) Carbs 2) Protein 3) Fat.

Please don’t be afraid to eat carbs, they are not your enemy. Remember that low carb diets are temporary ways to lose weight, they are not permanent! You can think of carbohydrates as food for your body. When you exercise, your body uses carbohydrates to provide you with the energy to build muscle. Carbohydrates are basically “food” for your muscles. They provide your body with energy to carry out all your daily activities! Carbohydrates can be divided into two subcategories: complex carbohydrates and simple carbohydrates.

The easiest way to remember the difference between the two is that simple carbohydrates are your fruits and sugars and complex carbohydrates are your whole grains, cereals, potatoes, beans etc. Let me tell you.

This is one of the most important things about diet that you need to remember: Eating too many carbohydrates will make you fat. You need to know how many and when to eat these carbohydrates. So I want you to eat simple carbohydrates before and after your workout and eat complex carbohydrates throughout the day.

How come? When you eat simple carbohydrates, your body can use this energy very quickly and your muscles will be fed properly, so when you exercise you will get the biggest gains. If your muscles don’t have this energy available, they will use other nutrients that are not efficient as an energy source and shouldn’t be used as energy because they are needed for other things and that’s not good! Complex carbohydrates break down slowly and will keep you fuller for longer and because you’re not doing vigorous exercise your muscles don’t need a quick supply of “food”.

Proteins are the building blocks for your muscles. Protein is so important; they are involved in so many bodily processes. One of the biggest problems with low carb diets is that you have extremely high protein in your diet and because your muscles have no “food”, your body converts the protein you are eating into molecules that will feed your muscles. This is a horrible way to feed your body; it is not energy efficient and consequently has negative side effects.

If you want to reduce body fat and lose belly fat fast, you need to make sure you are eating enough protein. How come? Well, when you exercise you damage your muscles and they need to be rebuilt so carbohydrates provide the energy to repair muscles and proteins are the materials used. It’s a bit like building a house, the carbohydrates are the workers and the proteins are the wood. Simple enough? I think so.

Finally fat! I know fats don’t have a good reputation as healthy nutrition, but please don’t be afraid of fats. To lose stomach fat fast you need fat and I know that sounds crazy. You need the “good” fats but not too many. The easiest way to get good fats is to visit your local health food store and pick up Flex Seed Oil and include 2 to 4 tablespoons in your daily diet.
