My Body My Weapon

In yoga class the other day, I noticed this particularly gorgeous girl with an equally gorgeous body and I thought to myself, “How does she do that?”

I wasn’t so much intrigued by how slim and fit she remained as how easily she moved her body despite the onlookers. She flaunted it she you could also say her. Both men and women took notice and she struck every pose like a pro, no matter how twisted or contorted she was, thus revealing even her most private parts at times.

Of course, she’s not the only woman in the world who isn’t ashamed to show off, and luckily for them, that’s not a problem for them. But for others, it’s a big deal, myself included.

I grew up in an unsafe environment, emotionally, physically, and sexually, and while I was never actually sexually abused (some incidents remain suspect), there was always that threat, and as a child and teenager, I felt the danger. My subconscious was always on high alert, ready for attack, and had enlisted a list of ways to protect myself that only my teenage mind could devise.

Physical abuse in my home was rampant, even for the slightest infraction, so there was a real threat of abuse. However, coupled with the perversity of an unhealthy male role model, I’ve never felt safe to show off for fear of negative repercussions, so I’ve found unhealthy ways not to, such as weight gain, that have followed me to the end. adulthood.

I was too immature and too confused to know more, and just trying to survive in a situation I didn’t know a way out of, and since the work of your subconscious mind has one purpose and one purpose only – preservation – do that what do you want I have to do just that.

Most 14-year-old girls aren’t emotionally strong enough, nor do they have a clue about how to use their minds to protect their bodies. They don’t know what to say, how to say it, or the confidence to get someone to back down, so what’s a girl to do?

Whatever makes sense at the moment.

I subconsciously thought that since men are only attracted to really attractive women, I was going to make myself unattractive, because who wants someone who is overweight anyway? We know that’s not really true, but as a girl I didn’t. I used to think that all of my self-esteem was tied to my looks and that being fat would be my secret survival weapon.

When you’re in it, you don’t notice it. Do or act in whatever way makes the most sense to you at the time, and I got the message that being thin was too scary because it would get a lot of attention from people I didn’t want it from, so every time I got close, all the red flags went up, warning signs sounded, and I gained weight. If I had lost it, I had regained it, and if I hadn’t just dieted, I had just gained it, which put me in a perpetual gain/loss gain/loss cycle for over 30 years.

Having no understanding of any of this led to feelings of worthlessness, belief in my own lack of willpower, and a rampage of self-criticism, which didn’t help matters; instead of using my mind for forward momentum, it became my own worst enemy, further forcing me to believe that I was in fact as pathetic a loser as I was told I was, thus compounding an already weakened and deteriorated mindset that was all other than connected to reality.

With no other choice, my wounded psyche decided to do all it knew how to do, which was use my body as a weapon, but unfortunately not in a secret agent way. Instead, I built a protective armor out of grease that was meant to discourage any unwanted advances, and it worked.

Outwardly, I hated myself. Internally, my green light was off. There was no pillow talk for me, which was totally fine with me. And the fatter I was, the safer I felt. No one wants a fat girl, I reasoned, yet all along I blamed myself for my lack of willpower and inability to control my eating. She didn’t even help me when I dated someone who was safe. All men carried too great a risk in my mind.

It was only when my mind matured and I felt more confident in controlling my circumstances that I called a ceasefire and finally ended the cycle of abuse. All the diets in the world were never going to solve the riddle of why my weight kept fluctuating all those years because it had nothing to do with counting calories. The matter was clearly much deeper than that and required a thorough questioning that only I could uncover. If I never realized this, I’d still feel like a failure when it came to my weight.

Understanding the hidden reasons why your weight doesn’t budge is mandatory in order to have even the slightest chance of living a naturally lean lifestyle. When you’re ready to peel away the layers and uproot the blockages that have been standing between you and your ideal body, breakthroughs come in waves, which makes it much easier to apply everything you already know about eating right and exercising.
