Adding chia seeds to your diet can have many beneficial effects. This article looks at four people who have been using them regularly for a year and the effects they have experienced. The four people involved are between the ages of 30 and 90. They are my brother, my aunt, my son and myself.

Each of us uses chia seeds differently, in different quantities and in ways that suit us and our lifestyle. We’re all concerned with health, eat right, and were interested in trying them out because of the reported energy-boosting benefits and because they’re a good source of omega three fats.

My son, in his early thirties, is a student and goes to the gym regularly. He finds he has more energy when he has chia seeds before a workout, and this energy is sustained longer. He also finds that they help his concentration when he is studying or has a task to complete. He also finds he’s not as hungry on the days he has chia seeds. Her favorite ways to get them are in cookies and also in fresh chia, which is a drink to which the whole seeds are added. He doesn’t have them every day but on an as-needed basis.

My brother, who is 50, is a vegetarian. He likes the fact that chia seeds are high in protein and that they are a complete protein source which is important for vegetarians. He has noticed an increase in sustained energy and better regularity when he uses these seeds. His favorite way to eat them is to make chia seed pudding for breakfast, using a spoonful of seeds.

My aunt is an amazing woman in her early nineties. She uses her chia seeds to “keep her going” and she has noticed that she is more active with more energy since she started adding them to her diet. Regularity is no longer a problem for her. My aunt does a lot of sewing, knitting and crocheting. She has noticed that she can perform more demanding jobs for longer periods of time when using this food. All she does is add a dessert spoonful of the seeds to her morning cereal, usually oatmeal.

I’m in my early sixties and still working, with a history of PTSD and associated depression. In addition to an increase in sustained energy and an improvement in regularity, I have noticed that my mood is much lighter and more upbeat since I started using this food. I make a chia pan that I eat often, but sometimes I just put a dessert spoonful of seeds in water and drink it before the seeds swell. I have between one and two tablespoons of seeds every day.

As you can see, we have all noticed the benefits of adding chia seeds to our diet. Even just a dessert spoonful of these seeds a day can give good results. None of us noticed any negative effects from eating them.
