A2 Motorcycle License Holders Should Consider The Benelli TRK502

As a motorcycle tour operator, I like to think that our marketing materials explain what we do, however, over the years I have had some unusual requests. Although not related to motorcycling, a common thread in these irregular requests is people who do not have a motorcycle license; something that should be a foregone conclusion as a prerequisite for participating in motorcycling.

An example of such a request is “Grandma will be 90 years old on her birthday and she has never ridden a motorcycle but we want to make it a special day for her, so can you take her for a ride?” – region”. It is always a difficult decision to refuse any business although we try to do it in a modest way and offer suitable suggestions for other gifts.

Although we have rarely received requests from riders with an A2 license. We must advise these riders to bring their own bikes. However, implementing this can be too much of a challenge for inexperienced riders as they may need to travel thousands of miles to get to the start of the trip and perhaps another thousand miles home to the end. . Of course, we prefer not to put riders at risk of asking them to take sides so far, especially in terms of meeting time, but few can afford or justify several weeks of cycling holidays and try to cover many miles each days between home and tourist destinations. I always get tired before the real journey begins.

I had an unfortunate experience recently which started while I was on my way to Fort Augustus to look for a tour when I got a puncture. The repair attempt on the road proved unsuccessful so I called the RAC who collected the bike and took it to Inverness where new tires were fitted. The next day, when I returned to Ft Augustus from the Isle of Skye, my armor was removed! I can only guess that when it was strapped into the car on the trip to Inverness there must have been some rope pressing the lever and it might have been weak. Anyway, an emergency roadside repair with gaffer’s tape (always carry some!) soon got the gear changer working again to complete the research trip and get back to Glasgow.

When I got back I ordered a new alternator through a local family run Benelli, Kawasaki, Royal Enfield and Sym dealer although my ride was a Triumph but I use them because they also do service, maintenance and all motorcycle brands are MOT. A few days later they advised that the parts were available and when I arrived they offered them to me. While in the shop I was drawn to the Benelli TRK502 touring bike designed specifically for A2 license holders and daily commuters. New out of the box it can be on the road for just £5,699 which seems like good value for money. They suggested that I take it in for testing while it was being repaired.

I’m used to jumping on and off different bikes but with my short legs, 29″, many adventure bikes beat me. I usually have to get off the saddle to get to the ground but the Benelli has Saddle. The height at 815mm is fine for me.I’m sure it will reassure new riders even those with long legs.

I immediately felt at ease with the bike. The saddle is very comfortable and the upright riding position is very comfortable. The windshield is effective although depending on your height it may benefit from an additional deflector to divert air from the helmet. Even though the bike is around 250kg with full fuel, it’s not too heavy for me, it’s very well balanced with the weight down in the frame, so I wonder if it’s included in the luggage. These are listed as full items because the bike I rode was equipped with a Givi pannier rack and only the top box that day. Note that the Givi rear and side racks, screen winglets, crash bar and USB accessory power point come as standard equipment.

For the technically minded, the Benelli TRK 502 is a chain driven twin cylinder with a displacement of 499.6cc and a 6 speed gearbox. Remember that this bike addresses the A2 market and the maximum power is 47BHP (35 kW) at 8500 rpm and the torque is 45 Nm (4.6 kgm) at 4500 rpm. There are twin discs in the front and one in the back. The front tires are 110/80 R19 and the rear 150/70 R17.

I have to say that my first impression was that the engine was a bit underwhelming but I’ll try not to criticize that as it only produces about a third of what I normally do and besides riding a Suzuki Bandit that I’ve had. map to 47BHP I don’t have much experience riding a bike with this small product. I’m sure if that’s all you got a license for you’ll find it’s not only comparable to the other limited edition A2 engines but better. I like riding the Benelli a lot more than the limited Suzuki. The TRK502 pulls well in all gears with smooth development throughout the rev range. The brakes were a little squishy at first, but I soon adjusted to the feeling with a little more pressure. Not a bad thing for inexperienced riders who might lock discs by braking too hard. Although another mark is that it is Euro4 rated, it also has ABS.

If Benelli made the TRK with a bigger engine I would consider one as I think it would be a competitor to the BMW F700/F800GS, Kawasaki Versys 650, Suzuki VStrom 650, Triumph Tiger 800, Yamaha Tracer 700, etc. It is anticipated that it will be used overseas for charter cruises due to its ease of handling, cargo capacity and economy. The Benelli TRK502 should not only be considered by young riders with a limited license, but also by those who have a full license but are not interested in high speeds or want to take points off their licence. and also those who want to have a comfortable economy. good handling commuters as the Benelli TRK502 ticks all the boxes.
