Earl Fee Shows How to Go From Good to Great

Canadian Earl Fee went from being a good runner in his youth to becoming a great man in his later years. Earl was a good, maybe even a very good runner in high school and college — for example, his 400-meter dash was around 51 seconds (not bad at all, but off the charts either). Last March, at the age of 80, he celebrated his 80th birthday by running a world record of 1:11.23 in the 400m at the Ontario track and field world championships. This time he broke the 80-84 year old Canadian Record by 8 seconds and broke the existing World Record by over 4 seconds; showing his strength, just three hours later he returned to the field in the 200m in 32.07, missing the world record of 31.86 of American Mel Larson and breaking the Canadian record of Aleks Ernesak for more than 3 seconds. A few weeks later, in Raleigh, North Carolina, he set a new outdoor world record in the 400 in a blistering 1:10.64 and returned to Toronto for a new (waiting?) 800 world record with the blazing 2:48.95.
