Western Long-Eared Bat Or Myotis Evotis

The Western Long-eared is an insectivore and eats cockroaches, beetles, net-winged insects and true bugs. The flight of this bat is slow and very maneuverable. This allows Little Big-Ears to pick up insects from leaves and in the air. They will eat less water and this bat can turn off echolocation and “listen for insects”. This allows them to sneak up on their prey and catch them before they can get away. This bat uses a lot of energy due to its slow flight, but this bat can hunt at night and eat a lot of insects.

This is another long-lived mammal. The longest recorded is 22 years, although the average is less. This bat maternity group can be 5-30 people. Among the enemies of this bat are chipmunks, bears and other small predators. The removal of old forests and the encroachment of caves and mines also have a negative impact. The Western Long-ear changes roosts frequently to limit the amount of odor that may arise. As with other bats, this species has effects on pest control.
