No-No to Low Carb Diets

I’ll show you the reader why you should say “No No to low-carb diets.” Many people think that low-carb diets are healthy, but it’s best to think back and evaluate the reasons in this article before starting a low-carb diet. That carbohydrates make you fat and that they should be eliminated from the diet is one of the great misconceptions out there.

Proponents of the low-carb diet have essentially brainwashed the American public into saying that carbohydrates are bad. This is based on false concepts, erroneous conclusions and poorly designed studies.

I’ll show you the reader why you should say “No No to low-carb diets.” Many people think that low-carb diets are healthy and keep you from gaining weight, but it’s best to think back and weigh the reasons in this article before starting a low-carb diet. This misconception that carbohydrates make you fat and that they must be eliminated from the diet is one of the greatest dangers to which one’s body can be subjected. Carbohydrates are an essential part of the human body’s metabolism and are needed for the energy needed to keep up with work, especially the hard physical work we have to do every day. No one can truly survive in good health without the use of carbohydrates. Our cells make energy from glucose which comes from natural carbohydrates such as whole grains, fruits and vegetables. One glucose molecule can provide up to 36 ATP molecules! ATP (adenosine triphosphate) molecules are the main source of energy needed by cells. The body cannot make ATP as efficiently with any other nutrient as it does with carbohydrates.

The body was designed to consume an adequate amount of carbohydrates (carbohydrates – starches). One of the biggest pieces of evidence is the composition of breast milk. Breast milk contains over 60% carbohydrates! And most scientists agree it’s the best food for the developing baby and there’s no substitute. Why would the human body produce milk with such a high concentration of carbohydrates if it was not healthy?

No one can permanently follow a low carbohydrate diet without side effects to the body. One can subject the body only for a short time to this type of regimen. What Happens After You Stop Your Low Carb Diet? When you go back to your normal diet you will find yourself gaining weight.

There are health risks to following low-carb diets as well. There is a risk of osteoporosis. Low-carb diets are high in protein. Science has proven that the body uses only 30 to 40 grams of protein per day. But these low-carb diets are usually high in protein. Some even recommend 1 gram for every kilo of weight! Is absurd! But most will recommend 75 to 100 grams. What happens when the body is presented with so much protein? A high consumption of protein causes an increase in acidity in the body. This increased acid must be neutralized in order for the body to use the calcium from the bones to neutralize these acids. It has been shown that women who eat a high protein diet can lose up to 35% of their bone tissue by the time they turn 50. Whereas women who consume adequate but not excessive protein (30-40 grams) lose only 5% bone tissue at the same age!

The Institute of Health and other major health institutions in this country recommend for optimal health to consume 3 to 4 servings of fruit per day.

Whole grains, fruits, and starchy roots are an excellent source of phytochemicals, phytonutrients, and vitamins and nutrients not found in high-protein animal foods.

Additionally, according to the American Institute for Cancer, any low-carb diet that is low in fruits, vegetables and whole grains but high in animal foods greatly increases your risk of getting several forms of cancer. Low-carb diets can sometimes be high in saturated fat. High intakes of saturated fat are a known factor in the development of heart disease, high blood pressure, stroke and circulatory occlusion in the extremities.

Some of the side effects of low-carb diets reported by those who follow them are: tiredness, intestinal discomfort, severe headaches, constipation and fatigue. A diet that makes you feel bad should be a sign that there is something really wrong with that diet.

Here are some suggestions for a healthy and balanced diet:

1) Consume at least 60% carbohydrates in your diet.

2) Make sure these carbohydrates come from sources such as whole grains, fruits, vegetables that are not processed.

3) If you are on a high protein diet, be sure to include large amounts of fruits and vegetables and drink a few more glasses of water than usual to help break down acids in your body.

4) If you combine starches with protein in a meal, you will avoid high insulin levels that sometimes occur if starches are refined or high glycemic (they raise sugar too quickly). Protein helps starches enter the bloodstream more slowly. If the carbohydrates are high in fiber, this will also have the same effect.

5) Many nutrition specialists have found that if you combine proteins and carbohydrates, you eliminate the risk of causing overweight problems. This also helps maintain a balanced diet.

I hope this helps correct your understanding of avoiding low carbohydrate diets and the need to eat a more balanced diet for health and permanent weight loss. So say no to low-carb diets.”
