Hello Lazy Bones: The Happy Truth About Exercise, Or Simple Steps To Losing It
Exercise… and I say this unfortunately, I too have my moments of laziness…. it’s really a Do-It-Yourself business.
If running, lifting weights, or hitting the treadmill isn’t your thing, you’re in for a treat.
A lot of good people don’t exercise.
And that’s okay.
Because there is good news…
According to the latest research, you can still find your slimmer, slimmer and feel great – WITHOUT intense exercise.
The researcher, Dr James Hill found that the average number of steps taken by women every day is about 5,000 steps.
Interestingly, his study shows that obese women take 2,000 less steps per day than their happy sisters.
Think about it for a moment.
Only 2,000 steps separate the obese from the happy equal.
Want to know how far 2,000 steps are? four. City. Blocks.
Four city blocks stand between you and your happy weight.
I can not believe.
Just to be clear.
Hill is not talking about extreme exercise here. He’s not talking about paving, pumping iron or drying sweat….he’s talking about walking.
Good ole fashion, move your heels, one foot in front of the other: WALK.
Last week, you learned how easy it is to upset your body’s natural balance by overeating.
Well, today you find out how to restore that balance, by plugging in and out.
It’s a simple process.
Four city blocks. I mean come on ooooon!!!
So…. go get a pedometer (step counter) from a fitness store (they’re about $10). From the moment you wake up, put it on your belt and find out how many steps you are currently taking on a typical day.
Aim to increase your number of steps by 2,000 per week until you reach a realistic goal. Hill’s research suggests that 10,000 steps per day is a good ballpark figure.
The beauty of walking is its accessibility. I assume there is a pavement (‘sidewalk’ for American readers) outside your house?
Yes? Go figure it out.
Walking is safe, simple and soon it will be good. You can walk around your life. Anytime, anywhere.
There is no excuse.
You don’t need a gym membership. No need for a special Lycra bag.
Listen: my goal is not to discourage you from going to the gym. If you love your spin class or you love lifting weights… hats off to you chica, keep it up.
This letter is for the non-exercisers among you. You know who you are….
I realize there are exercise experts out there who say “you have to exercise with continuous movement for an hour to get physical results”.
And maybe that’s true. If you are training for a marathon.
All I know is that whether it’s food, exercise or anything else, I have to find my own rhythms and honor them.
I’ve learned that if I tell myself, “I HAVE to hit 10,000 steps in one workout,” I’ll find all kinds of creative ways to keep myself out the door. I’m going to blow myself up. And do nothing.
But I find that if I walk for 15 minutes during the day, it’s great. And at night, I completed 10,000 steps.
Good Job.
I also learned to simplify it. In my book, even a five minute walk is better than no walk at all.
Yes, isn’t it?
No, you don’t need to start a regular exercise program… (unless you want to feel more confident, less emotional, and feel better about yourself)… but you do need to get your body moving. you.
Do it whenever you get the chance. Yes, it will burn calories too; )
Take the stairs instead of the elevator. Walk your dog. Park your car at your office and drive the difference. Get off the train that stops early and go. Leave the car in the garage and go to school.
Moving.
Dance.
Play.
Have fun. You only have one body. It is meant to move. Enjoy.
In the comments below, I’d love to hear your best tips for improving your pace and keeping yourself motivated to exercise.
As always, thank you so much for your time and for reading. If you found this information useful, please share it with your friends on Twitter and Facebook.
One foot after the other. Give it a go, lay dees đŸ™‚
