Weight Watchers and Medifast – Can You Use Them Together? My Opinion
I recently received a letter in which the author asked me if I could combine the Medifast diet and Weight Watchers. In particular, he likes to use the Medifast shakes, the oatmeal, some of the soups and puddings and the use of the smartwatcher’s cold food. He wanted to know if I recommended this practice and if I thought it would help him lose weight. I will tell you what I told him in the next post.
Combine the Weight Watcher’s Smart Ones diet with other foods on the diet: I don’t think it’s fair to tell the author that he can’t try this practice. After all, it is possible to do it. But, my opinion is that he should not do this for a long time. Of course, I am not a doctor or an expert and I would really like to seek the opinion of one. But, from my research and personal experience, the smart diet has so many calories, carbohydrates, and sugar that you can quickly and effectively lose the weight you might lose on other diets. Keep in mind that my experience is with this particular diet, so my opinion may be biased based on my own good results.
But, I believe Medifast works because it limits calories, as well as sugar and carbs. Doing so allows your body to enter ketosis where it can burn fat instead of carbohydrates. From my research and experience, I know that the average person consumes too much sugar and carbs. And if you look at the nutrition information for smart people, it turns out that these foods are not able to solve this problem. I will look at two specific dishes to illustrate this point below.
Comparing nutrition, sugar and carbs wise with the same contents of Medifast diet: To analyze the content of these two diets, I will look at concrete examples from these two diets. First, I’ll look at breakfast. Weight Watchers’ English muffin sandwich has 210 calories, 3 grams of sugar and 27 grams of carbs. Medifast Cinnamon Oatmeal has 100 calories, 1 gram of sugar and 15 carbs.
Medifast asks you to eat one fresh healthy meal that you prepare every day. This is known as “lean and green food” and most people eat it for dinner. That’s why I write about lunch. From the smart ones in line, I’ll check Santa Fe beans and rice. This one has 310 calories, 6 grams of sugar and 51 carbs. Now, let’s take a look at Medifast Chili. You’re looking at less than 1/2 the calories (only 110.) You’re looking at less sugar, at just one gram. And, the carbohydrate content is less than 15 grams.
The bottom line: Of course, this article is based on my personal experiences and biases. But, I also believe that comparing side-by-side diets makes a convincing argument that one of these diets gives you a better chance of success than the other. It has less than half the calories, carbs and sugar of the other. In my experience, you need all these numbers to get the most weight loss benefits in the fastest way possible.
There is no point in cutting off your potential success by eating outside of the plan twice a day. In this way, you risk ruining your progress and undoing all the steps you took that day. Medifast is designed to work as a system. There’s nothing stopping anyone from taking a bite out of two different foods, but why would you? In my opinion, what makes people diet is to lose weight in the fastest way possible. And in my opinion, combining these two foods does not have the ability to do it as well as sticking to one diet according to the instructions.
