When our doctor said that the 2nd trimester had started, I was a bit nervous and wondering what to expect at this stage. When I shared my concerns with our doctor, he said that the 2nd trimester will be the easiest stage of pregnancy and that my husband is starting to feel as strong as before. I was relieved, to say the least.

The first week was easy, to be honest. But after a few weeks, my husband started having strange acidity problems. And that’s almost every night. When I realized it was becoming a routine, I called my doctor. He assured that all the problems of gas, heartburn, acidity, constipation are nothing but symptoms of 2nd trimester. When the baby grows, there is pressure on the digestive tract of the mother, which causes all the discomfort. Our doctor also advised my husband to drink a lot of water to keep his digestive system as normal as possible. At that point I understood that it was not going to be as smooth as I had hoped.

As I thought, when our son started growing, he brought many health problems to his mother. Back pain and tooth decay were the main topics discussed here. Pregnant women often gain weight during the 2nd trimester, which puts pressure on the back. As a father, I have done everything from arranging a comfortable sitting and sleeping arrangement to grinding and texting the bitter spots to comfort my wife. Whenever he needed anything, he did whatever I could do in front of him, so he didn’t have to bend down. Trust me. All these worked well to give him comfort.

My husband also had a bleeding tooth during this time. When I went to the doctor, he said that it is very common in pregnant women, because it is a result of hormonal changes. Again, hormones! But our doctor also warned us not to take it for granted, because it has been proven that pregnant women with periodontal disease are more likely to give birth to low-weight babies and often give birth prematurely. So, I decided to take him for regular dental checkups. After a few sessions the dental problems were almost gone.

When my husband started to lose weight and of course because of the baby bump, it was time to go shopping for moms. I was with him. When we got back from the mall, I noticed something. My husband was sitting in the car. When I asked him, he said that there was something in his stomach. Something moved. Our doctor has advised us that we will be able to remember the baby soon. It was the best time ever. Our son was moving and kicking my wife’s stomach. Yes, the 2nd trimester is a wonderful stage, as the doctor told us.
