The latest research seems to confirm that the kidney is related to these afflictions. It also includes sugar and some food additives such as fructose. The Mayo Clinic published a study this year that said eating a high-carbohydrate diet is 3.6 times more likely to be unhealthy. What may be strange is that the high-fat diet was 42% lower than the low-fat diet.
Dr. David Perlmutter is a neurologist and president of Perlmutter Medical Center in Florida. He is the author of a recent book called “Grain Brain: The Surprising Truth about Wheat, Carbs, and Sugar-Your Brain’s Silent Killers.” This book describes in detail the effects of the kidney and its connection to mental disorders.
There is growing evidence that Alzheimer’s may be a third type of diabetes. All of this is especially troubling considering the average American diet is over 60% carbs.
Now nothing is written in stone. There are many different studies, different doctors and certainly different books. However, there is growing new evidence that carbon overload is responsible for many different diseases, including obesity, which is just one condition.
So when we put it all together, we see a huge increase in obesity, a connection between carbohydrates, grains and diseases like diabetes, as well as increasing evidence that other diseases like Alzheimer’s appears to be strongly associated with excess carbon.
Then you can see where it’s going. You might think that the Paleo diet sounds crazy. Sure, some of its supporters make it crazy, but … it’s a diet that supports low-carb, grain-free, low-sugar and no-preservative foods. When you consider most of the recent evidence, you might come to the conclusion that it’s not so crazy. Chances are good that soon you will see more evidence on the Internet, on TV or in magazines or newspapers to make you think again about Paleo. Add to all of this the testimonials and success of people with Paleo.
Paleo is not just about losing weight. It’s about feeling better and enjoying your life more. It’s about reducing your chances of getting serious illnesses and diseases. Be on the lookout for more food and disease research news, and probably at one point or another, consider giving Paleo a serious try.
