If you’ve gained weight over the summer season, you’re not alone. Millions of Americans find themselves overindulging and overeating over the summer and are now faced with the facts of having to figure out how they can best shed this newfound weight now that summer is over.
The main reason we put on extra pounds over the summer is that we’re socializing more than usual, and it seems like every event is built around food. During the summer there are barbecues, beach parties, pool parties, parties to celebrate the beginning of summer, 4th of July, the end of summer and so on. We are also asked to bring food to many of these events and this seems to aggravate the situation.
Here are some tips on how to lose the weight you gained over the summer and maybe even shed a few extra pounds.
- Look in the fridge and pantry. If there are any foods you brought into your home to prepare or serve at a party, throw them away or donate them to a food bank if they’re unopened.
- Find a favorite pair of pants or shorts and a blouse or shirt that no longer fits you because you’ve gained weight. Hang them where you will see them every day. Visualize yourself wearing them comfortably in a moment not too far into the future.
- Start walking every morning and every evening. If you can move for thirty minutes, twice a day, you’ll begin to notice a difference in the way you look and feel very quickly. This can happen in the first two weeks.
- Think about what you are eating. If you’ve gotten used to eating ice cream or potato chips during the summer, simply stop eating these things so you can get back to eating more healthy and nutritious foods for your body.
By making this kind of effort with food and exercise, it won’t be long before you’re back to your senses and probably look and feel even better than before.
