There are so many fad diets that come and go in popularity. People swear by one and downgrade by another. Every month, a new popular diet book comes out with some new combination of foods that guarantee weight loss. People who have been trying to lose weight for years often get on the bandwagon, lose weight, and within a year most of the weight comes back.

This is an old story known to most of us. What can be done to get rid of this constant yo yo syndrome?

Most people eat whatever they want most of the time, and are careful and eat healthy foods a small percentage of the time. Slim, fit people eat healthily with fat and calories in mind most of the time and eat treats a small percentage of the time. One of the main reasons for making healthy choices is so that the food you select isn’t addictive or prompting you to eat more. You’ll likely eat healthy salads, low-fat protein choices, and stop before feeling full. When you eat cake, candy, fast food you will eat more and more until you are full. As for sugar, it has addictive qualities, which makes you overeat. Often the addiction continues into the next day. I personally woke up the next day indulging in something super sweet and wanting more sugar.

Vegetables are probably the best choice for keeping the weight off and for getting plenty of vitamins and minerals. This ensures good nutrition and ensures your health. Having them available and cut makes it really easy to make that wise choice.

I had personally gained quite a bit of weight when I got back from college. My mom put me on a diet and took me to the gym. I lost the fifteen kilos with a promise to myself never to gain weight again. I thought dieting was absolute torture. I actually gained weight twice having two kids. I kept my promise and still wear the same size as when I was 18. What keeps me slim? It’s still the thought of going back on a diet that keeps me on track.

After all these years I don’t even have to step on the scale, because I know how much I can eat without gaining weight. If I’ve been exercising a lot I know I can pretty much eat whatever I want. If it was an exercise-free day, I’d cut back. The thought of going shopping and buying clothes one size bigger is not appealing to me. It’s really about personal commitment and your desire to look good in your clothes and be healthy. So look in the mirror and make the decision to lose weight or stay the same. Try to stop searching for the perfect diet and start making wise food selections. Eat only when you are hungry.

My reward for being thin is new clothes and knowing I’m wearing the same size I’ve always worn. I always recommend to stay fit and this one deserves a new outfit. I feel pretty proud that I’m past the baby boom age.

Nothing tastes better than the feeling of being slim.
