Eating Disorders – A Matter of Willpower

The human body is uniquely designed to heal and recover from diseases, ailments and disorders that a person may experience in their lifetime. It may take them a while to do so, but the majority of people are able to recover from most of these illnesses, diseases, and disorders. However, some disorders affect the body as well as the mind of the person affected by the condition. An example of this is the various eating disorders that more and more people around the world seem to be developing throughout their lives. An eating disorder is of particular concern because of the effect it can have on a person, depriving the person of much-needed nutrients needed in daily life or, conversely, causing the person to overeat. Necessary for the body and considered safe, but an eating disorder can significantly affect a person’s mind, causing the person to think that the faulty eating habits they have developed due to the eating disorder are not harmful to them in any way. In some cases, people acknowledge the harm that an eating disorder can bring them, but they feel powerless to do anything about it, so they continue to indulge in the dangerous habit. In some cases, the person is completely afraid that people will find out that they have an eating disorder and will try to hide or deny that they actually suffer from an eating disorder. This action only serves to exacerbate the situation, as people often choose to believe that they are having a bad day and this affects the way they eat, rather than attributing the change in eating habits to the eating disorder.

In cases where people tend to suppress the way they eat, such as when they suffer from the eating disorder anorexia nervosa, they have an irrational fear of gaining any amount of weight and a distorted view of how they really look. They often see themselves as overweight when they are already dangerously underweight. When this behavior is manifested, the disorder has already reached such an intensity that it already requires intervention, because at this stage already most people do not have the willpower to seek medical care.

In cases where people tend to overeat or overeat, they often suffer from binge eating disorder. This disorder is usually triggered by emotional or psychological stress. People with this disorder eat excessive amounts of food when they are troubled, troubled, or depressed. In some cases, this disorder is so bad that the affected person takes any excuse to eat food, causing them to gain a significant amount of weight. This disorder creates a vicious cycle of its own, as unsatisfied people with this disorder relieve themselves by eating, and when they eat, they become equally unsatisfied, and the cycle continues.

The problem to be solved here is how to help people with eating disorders gain enough willpower to effect change in their eating habits and how to influence positive mindsets in them to develop proper eating habits and maintain proper eating habits.
