One of the most common mistakes people make on a weight loss diet is starvation. They cut back on food drastically, banning anything that contains any sugar or fat, and eat only minimal food, which they believe will help them lose weight faster. Been there, done that? Then you will be happy to know that it is not necessary and should not be. You don’t need to starve yourself to lose weight. Let me explain to you how you can eat like no one else and still lose weight!

1. Make healthy food choices

  • You should prefer foods that are high in nutrients, not in calories, fruits, vegetables and whole grains. Since these foods are low in calories, you can eat plenty without worrying about calorie counting. It’s important that you keep these foods “clean” and healthy and don’t make them with lots of fat and sugar.
  • Another important step to ensure regular portion sizes don’t leave you hungry and tired is to reduce calories wherever possible. Choose low-fat versions of dairy products like milk, cheese and yogurt, use low-fat spreads, use margarine instead of butter and preferably vegetable oils (olive oil is healthy). Reduce sugar or replace with natural sweeteners like honey. You can also use naturally sweetened foods such as fruit that do not require added sugar. This way, your body gets enough food and enough nutrients and keeps calories low, helping you lose weight without hunger.
  • Drink water or low-calorie drinks instead of calorie-laden soft drinks, and try to drink your tea with little or no sugar. With these healthy drinks, you never have to feel bad while drinking because they contain minimal calories.

2. Adopt a healthy diet

  • Watch your portion sizes! Our portions are often larger than we need. If you feel that your plate is too full, reduce the dish a bit. It may take some time for your body to get used to eating less, so take your time to figure out how much food you really need. You should have what your body needs, but not more than it needs because it will start storing fat.
  • Never allow yourself to get too hungry. If you get hungry between meals, have a small snack on hand. It avoids hunger pangs and overeating at main meals. Make sure your snacks are healthy, such as fruit and low-fat yogurt, and keep them small. After all, they are just a snack, not a main meal. But if your snacks are healthy, you don’t have to feel bad about eating them even if you’re on a diet.
  • Eat regularly and preferably at the same time every day. If your body knows its meal times, it will be easier to adjust to your eating schedule. If your lunch and dinner time are balanced, you won’t be hungry in between.

As I mentioned earlier, dieting and starvation are often associated with weight loss and this puts a huge strain on your body. In addition to making you feel tired and sad, it deprives you of important nutrients, meaning it can do you more harm than good.

It’s really unnecessary to put yourself through this. If you change your diet to a healthy one, you can enjoy meals and eat reasonable portions, with many benefits attached to it: your body will get all the nutrients it needs which will make you feel good, energetic and healthy. And you can follow this new way of eating for a long time, as a result of which you lose weight slowly and prevent it from coming back. The best food still does not feel like one.
