Detoxify – Tips on How to Feel Healthy, Happy, and Whole

So I was driving to DC for Thanksgiving listening to a CD of Queen Afua’s book “Heal Thyself: For Health and Longevity”. After listening to the CD a few times it reminded me of the importance of healthy eating and detoxification. I am a very picky eater. I do not eat cheese, drink milk and rarely eat meat. However I do a mean fresh veggie wrap with bruschetta dressing. However, the main thing is that I eat pretty healthy and since I don’t drink alcohol, I often reward myself with sweets.

Chocolate is my happy place…sad but true. So after listening to Rani Afua’s CD over and over again it really hit me that it almost defeats the purpose of having a green leafy salad for lunch, I give myself a pack of candy for dessert. I realized that it would benefit me to apply a “driven I can achieve anything” attitude to my health, just as I do in my marketing ventures.

Sometimes I hear people say “oh there are so many things that are bad for us and we can’t avoid them all”. I agree with that but we can do our part to be conscious of what we put in our bodies and make an effort to take baby steps to eating better.

Detox is short for detoxification and involves removing toxic substances from the bloodstream. The human body has a natural detoxification function through the liver, kidneys and lower digestive tract. We are constantly exposed to thousands of toxins and chemicals every day through the air we breathe, our food or our water supply. A diet high in processed foods, sugars, and unhealthy fats can slow down the body’s natural detoxification process.

Toxins can cause:

Bloating, abdominal pain, constipation, chronic fatigue, acid reflux, skin and hair problems, parasites, insomnia, diseases and more.

Detoxification can cause:

As your body digests food, it makes you healthier and more alive. Detoxification also helps with weight loss.

How to detox:

Change your diet to a healthy one

o Use cleansing herbs or teas

Colon Hydrotherapy aka Colon Cleansing

Oh exercise

Attention:

The above methods are great in starting the body’s natural detoxification process. Now, as all the waste is released from your body in this process, you may experience side effects. This is part of the cleansing process. It’s important to do your research and talk to your doctor before starting this process. Your doctor will be aware of your health condition and how it may or may not interfere with the medications you are already taking. Please note that if your doctor is not a big fan of “natural” detoxification methods and that is what you need, you may want to research a holistic center or holistic doctor in your area to gather more information.

I personally try to drink plenty of water, eat fiber cookies, add flax seeds to most of the dishes I cook, and try to eat some form of veggies every day, even if it’s a small portion.
