What If I Don’t Eat The Lean And Green Meal On Medifast?

Someone recently asked me if it was acceptable to skip the lean, green meal while on Medifast. She was single, she didn’t have a family to cook for and she really enjoyed not having to worry about preparing her own meals. Also, I think she suspected that if she omitted the lean green meal, she would have saved herself some calories and thus she might actually lose more weight as a result.

This is not an unusual question. I’m often asked about the consequences or logistics of not eating the biggest “lean, green meal.” In the following article, I will share my opinion on this.

While I don’t think it’s advisable to skip the lean green meal, I also don’t think that every once in a while isn’t the end of the world: It is my opinion and experience that, in the long run, you will save yourself nothing or lose more weight if you skip meals. You probably already know that a big part of success with Medifast is the ability to get into ketosis or fat burning mode. But your body needs enough food to sustain your body while this is happening. If you consume too few calories, you run the risk of delaying or preventing the ketosis process, which could potentially halt rather than improve your results.

The plan is put together by considering the calories in this main meal, and there’s plenty of room for that. So they no longer expect you (or want you) to cut back. And think of it this way, this is your only opportunity to have some variety and make sure you have fresh food.

That said, it’s not like the diet police come swarming over you if you have a day off. There are times when you don’t have the time or inclination to sit down and you may only have access to Medifast prepackaged meals. Being in this situation every once in a while doesn’t have to derail you. In my experience, Medifast has some wiggle room and leeway. As long as you do better the next day and don’t let that lead you astray, it’s my opinion that there’s nothing wrong with accepting that these things sometimes happen. Of course, you should address any concerns with your doctor.

The lean and green meal doesn’t have to be a large production: Finally, many of the people who ask me to skip this main meal are under the impression that it’s a big deal to prepare it. Many tell me they just don’t have the time. Nothing says this meal has to be home cooked every night. It really can be quite easy. You can get a bagged salad and add some ready-made protein. You can use a carefully chosen frozen meal. You can even make some restaurant foods work. (Even fast food can work if you choose very carefully.)

The point is, you don’t have to skip or omit this meal because you think it’s inconvenient. And frankly, I don’t think doing so will make you lose more weight any faster. I believe there is a reason it was put into Medifast by the doctors who developed the diet. And I find it helpful if you look at it as an opportunity for variety rather than a chore.
