Badminton Is So Much Fun!
I love to play Badminton! I currently play weekly in the sports club at my workplace. To help newbies and current players improve their skills, we will also hold badminton training sessions. It’s so easy to pick up bad habits and use crappy techniques that it’s really helpful to get some expert advice. In turn, this will improve our game and give players more satisfaction because they will see their game improve.
If you want to join and play Badminton, courts are easily available at your school, college or sports center. Playing badminton doesn’t break the bank either. On average a trial can cost around £10 (about $15) and if you play twice then of course £2.50 (about $4) per player . Of course, as an additional cost, you have to buy rackets and shuttlecocks, but these do not have to cost a lot of money. It’s best to set a budget and stick to it.
Badminton racket
They all have the same basic components such as the handle, the string and the head. They were made differently; they are generally made of steel and aluminum, the lighter the racquet the better. Over the years the weight of a racket has decreased and you can now find the top of the racket weighing 70 grams. Most rackets are 80-100 grams. They are made of composite carbon fiber. Carbon fiber is stiff and offers excellent movement. Before carbon fiber rackets were made of wood, can you imagine the weight of those!
Head heavy racket versus light racket
You can get more power from a heavy head racket as compared to a light head racket when swinging. However, the speed of the shuttlecock is related to the speed of the racket. Some people find that they are able to produce more chips faster with a lighter racket than with a heavier head racket. However, smashing power depends on many other factors including your wrist strength, your technique, racket stiffness and aerodynamics, racket string type and string tension. . I don’t want to get too technical here, but don’t rush out and buy a heavy racket, it won’t improve your speed and power. If you are strong enough to use the racquet with a head-light racket, it will benefit you more because it helps to protect the head-light racket.
At a local sports center or university where you can hire badminton courts, you may also be able to hire rackets. Therefore, you can try different types to see which one is right for you before buying one.
Badminton shuttlecocks (shuttles for short)
Plastic or feathers
If you are just starting out, I prefer plastic, they last longer. I recommend the Yonex Mavis shuttle. The feathers are very fine; They are often used by professionals.
Choose the speed for nylon or plastic skirt shuttles
Fast speed – the shuttle has a red cap on the cap for playing in cold conditions.
Medium speed – has a blue line on the cap for playing in normal conditions
Slow speed – the shuttle has a green stripe on the cap for playing in hot conditions
Cork or Rubber
For cork, rubber is heavier and it affects the flight of the plane.
Enjoy Badminton!
