Journey to Weight Loss and Better Health – Weight, Kids, Cancer, Success
Recently, my work has been reading a lot of blogs about weight loss and better health. One day after reading the blogs, a neighbor found my physical photo in my husband’s purse. He wanted to know why my husband brought pictures of other women. I have changed so much! None of our closest neighbors recognized me! This motivated me to take on the challenge and improve myself. This is my story.
Some basic information
In my 20s I decided to grow. I work out in the morning (4:30 to be exact) and eat healthy. I read all the health magazines and boy are they beautiful. Then everything changed.
Like many women, children come. My 115 pound 5 foot solid stone was slimming down. In its place was a 135-pound blob. Now 15 kilos is not a lot and for many years I was in denial. But I lost muscle and replaced it with fat. So I went from 12% body fat to a whopping 30% body fat.
I am married to my husband and weigh 95 pounds. Yes, I’m too short. At 34, I was 40 pounds heavier than the day I got married and it was depressing.
Start eating healthy
When I decided to change, I couldn’t remember what I ate to get into that rock solid body. I wracked my brain and couldn’t think of anything. I vaguely remember protein bars to add muscle but that was it.
So, I turned to my blog. In line with this, the blog mentioned eating natural food. It’s like going vegan but eating something as close to nature as possible. It was good for me; But I don’t like prepackaged food.
I started eating better but I was still tired from shopping with my daughter. So, I decided I had to add the dreaded exercise.
Exercise after Cancer
Well, I have to say now that I was diagnosed with breast cancer at the age of 32. I haven’t exercised since. It’s a scary proposition for me and I think after two years I’ve run out of cancer excuses.
At that time I was walking. I decided to walk 1 mile a day. There’s a mile of track near my house, so I don’t have to make pointless detours around the tracks.
The first day, I felt like I was going to die. It didn’t seem like the best idea but I kept coming back. Then somewhere around the third week, I thought it wasn’t so bad. It just got easier. I even added an extra lap!
New Clothes for the New Me
After walking for about a month, I decided to treat myself to some workout clothes. I know women’s clothing so I know I can get a shirt for $7. I’m so happy, I wake up and buy two.
Walking and eating have changed how I feel about myself. I’m not the blonde bombshell I was at 22, but what is 34? Basically, I’m a mom ready to take on the world.
