P90x Review After Week 1

Sometimes you watch a commercial and think, it sounds too good to be true. Many people say that about p90x. Having a background in physical education, I thought this program was worth checking out. After 1 week, here is my p90x review.

Tony Horton’s p90x is a 12 DVD system that focuses on the principle of muscle confusion. I wasn’t sure how extreme it would be until I tried the system myself, and now I can speak from experience.

I originally thought the program would be a 12 day rotation, doing 1 workout a day and then continuing the cycle. It’s actually split into 3 sections. The first section is 3 weeks, so that’s all I’ve experienced so far.

The trainings

Intense, extreme, efficient, all these words describe the workouts, but Tony does a good job of reassuring people to stay within their means and give themselves time to improve. Workouts can be a little fast-paced at times, and you might find yourself wanting to pause for a second to take a break or double check how to perform the exercise. The limited amount of equipment you use doesn’t detract from your workouts. It makes it nice and simple to make them in your home.

Strengths of the program

With p90x, all workouts last about an hour, so you know what you’re getting yourself into. By combining cardio and strength training, you get a workout similar to spending much more time at the gym doing traditional workouts. It is definitely a program that gets results. I’m quite fit. I started the program at 176 and 18.6% body fat. My goal is not to lose a lot of weight, considering I’m about 6’1, but more to lower my body fat percentage. After the 5 workouts I attended in the first week, I lost about 2 pounds and almost my entire body fat percentage. I didn’t eat like someone trying to lose weight. I actually increased my calorie intake, but started cutting out unhealthy foods. I can see how people who follow the diet with the workout program lose the incredible number of pounds they have.

Cons of the program

What would e review,. even a p90x review, without some cons. While the workouts are amazing, there is one thing I’ve noticed that I would change on the DVD that I’ve already changed for my workouts. Tony Horton does a great job warming you up and guiding you through the workout. His cool-down and stretch of him is a bit short though. The better shape you are in, the faster you will recover after a workout. His cool-downs seem really geared towards fitness. The simple solution is to take the extra time to stretch on your own.
